Fixing connection and data issues
Last updated: August 13, 2026
Banks report data on their own schedule, and Plaid syncs on its own schedule. This can delay transactions and balances. A connection may also need to be reauthorized.
Bank connection errors
Threshold connects to your bank through Plaid. From time to time that connection goes stale and needs to be re-authorized. The most common causes are:
- You changed your password at the bank
- A multi-factor authentication method expired or changed
- Your bank requires periodic reauthentication
When this happens, Threshold flags the connection as needing attention in two places. On your home screen, an Insight card appears reading “[Bank] connection needs attention” with a Reconnect button. The account detail sheet also shows a “Connection needs attention” banner with the same Reconnect action.
Tap Reconnectand complete the Plaid sign-in flow. You're only re-authorizing the existing connection, so your accounts, transaction history, and canvas organization stay in place. Once it succeeds, the banner changes to “Account has been reconnected” and syncing resumes.
Reconnecting requires an active subscription or trial, the same as making a new connection. If your trial or subscription has lapsed, you'll be routed to the subscription screen first.
My bank isn't in the search
Plaid supports most major US financial institutions, but not every one. If your bank doesn't appear when you search for it, it may not be supported yet. You can track it as a manual account and update the balance yourself. See Manual accounts for the steps.
Missing or delayed transactions
Plaid syncs transactions one or more times per day, depending on your bank. A purchase from the last day or two may not appear yet, especially if it's still pending at your bank. If a transaction is missing, it may not have been reported to Plaid yet. Check again in a day.
You may also see pendingtransactions that never post. Some banks report preauthorizations, such as a gas-station hold or hotel deposit, that are later voided. If a pending transaction has been sitting for more than 5–7 days without posting, it was most likely cancelled at the bank. It will disappear from Threshold once Plaid stops reporting it.
Finally, transaction history through Plaid goes back up to 24 monthsfrom when you first connected the account. Anything older than that window isn't available through the connection. Plaid sets this limit, and older transactions cannot be retrieved retroactively.
Refreshing your balances
Threshold caches your balances so your canvas loads instantly instead of waiting on a network call to your bank every time you open the app. When you launch Threshold, you see your cached numbers immediately.
Behind the scenes, the app keeps that data fresh on its own. If your cached balances are more than 24 hours old, Threshold refreshes them in the background when you open the app, and it also pulls fresh data each time you return to Threshold after switching away. You'll see your cached numbers first, then the updated ones once the sync finishes. A brief “Balances and transactions refreshed” confirmation appears.
If you just made a transfer, payment, or deposit and want the latest numbers right away, switch to another app or close Threshold, then reopen it. Returning to the app triggers a fresh sync from Plaid.
