Account, security, and deleting your account

Learn how to sign in, manage security and privacy settings, or delete your Threshold account.

Creating your account and signing in

When you first open Threshold, the welcome screen offers two ways to get started. Both create a Threshold account. Choose the method you prefer:

  • Sign up with Apple: Uses Sign in with Apple, so you never set a password. Apple authenticates you and returns a secure token to Threshold.
  • Sign up with email: Enter your email address and choose a password. You'll use that same email and password to log back in later.

If you signed up with Apple, you can choose to Hide My Email when Apple prompts you. That creates a private relay address (one ending in @privaterelay.appleid.com) that forwards to your real inbox. Everything works the same, and your profile shows anApple Account label instead of the relay address.

To sign back in on a new device, tap Log in on the welcome screen and choose Log in with Apple or Log in with email. Use the same method you signed up with.

Resetting your password

If you signed up with email and forget your password:

  1. On the log-in screen, choose to log in with email.
  2. Tap the password reset option and enter your email address.
  3. Tap Send Reset Link.
  4. Check your inbox for the reset email and follow the link to set a new password.

Accounts created with Sign in with Apple don't have a Threshold password. Log in with Apple again instead.

Security and preferences

Open your profile from the home screen to find your security and display settings, grouped under Preferences. Each is optional and off until you turn it on.

  • Face ID Login: Log in with Face ID instead of typing your password. The first time you enable it, your device verifies your identity to confirm it's really you.
  • App Lock: Require Face ID (or your device passcode) whenever you reopen Threshold after leaving it. This keeps your finances private if someone else picks up your unlocked phone. Enabling it asks you to verify once up front.
  • Privacy Mode: Hide every dollar amount across all of your canvases at once. Balances are replaced with masked values so you can open the app in public without showing real numbers. Toggle it back off any time. This is different from hiding individual accounts, which controls which account cards appear on each canvas.
  • Appearance: Choose Match System, Light, or Dark. “Match System” follows your iPhone's light or dark setting automatically.

Face ID Login and App Lock both rely on your device's biometrics. If Face ID or a device passcode isn't set up, Threshold will let you know and you'll need to add one in your iPhone's settings first.

Deleting your account

You can permanently delete your account inside the app:

  1. Open your profile from the home screen.
  2. Scroll to the About section and tap Manage Account.
  3. Read the summary of what deletion removes, then tap Delete Account.
  4. In the confirmation dialog, type delete account into the field to enable the final button.
  5. Tap Yes, delete everything to complete the deletion.

Deleting your account permanently removes everything Threshold knows about you:

  • Your connected bank accounts and every canvas you built
  • Your goals, groups, calculations, and other financial data
  • The full transaction and balance history that had been synced

Threshold disconnects your Plaid connections so your bank stops sharing transactions. If you used Sign in with Apple, Threshold also revokes your Apple sign-in token. It then deletes your Threshold data.

This can't be undone.You're welcome to sign up again later, but the deleted data won't come back. If you only want to stop being charged, deleting your account does not cancel an Apple subscription. Manage that separately from Manage Subscription in your profile, which opens your Apple subscription settings.
