How Threshold handles your financial data

Last updated: August 13, 2026

Threshold uses your financial data only to provide the features you choose to use. We do not sell it, use it for advertising, or share it with data brokers.

Connecting a financial institution

Threshold uses Plaid to connect to financial institutions. Your login credentials are entered through Plaid or your financial institution's own sign-in flow. They are never sent to or stored by Threshold.

Plaid gives Threshold a secure access token that allows the app to retrieve the account information you authorized. That token is encrypted before it is stored. The connection is read-only: we cannot move money, initiate transfers, or make changes to your accounts.

You can review and manage your Plaid connections at any time in your account settings.

What Threshold stores

Depending on the features you use, Threshold may store:

  • Your email, name, and app settings
  • Institution and account details, including account names, types, partial account numbers, and balances
  • Transaction details such as amount, date, merchant, category, and status
  • Investment holdings and transactions
  • Limited debt information
  • Information you create in Threshold, including goals, groups, budgets, categories, rules, and calculations

Threshold stores this information in Supabase, our managed database provider. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Plaid access tokens receive an additional layer of encryption before storage.

Database access controls keep each customer's data separate. Authorized Threshold systems and administrators can access production records when required to operate, secure, or support the service.

What happens when you contact support

Emailing support does not automatically attach your balances, transactions, or bank connection details.

The in-app feedback form sends your message, feedback category, user ID, device platform, operating system version, and app version. It doesn't automatically include any other account data.

When investigating an issue, we will:

  1. Start with the information you provide and available technical logs.
  2. Explain what account-level information we need if those details are necessary.
  3. Ask for your permission before reviewing that information, except where access is required to address a security incident or comply with the law.

We will never ask for your bank password or other financial-institution login credentials.

Disconnecting an institution

When you disconnect an institution, Threshold asks Plaid to revoke the connection and removes the related accounts, synced transactions, holdings, investment transactions, and app links.

Information you created separately, such as goals, categories, or some saved calculations, may remain because it is part of your Threshold workspace rather than the bank connection itself.

If Plaid is temporarily unavailable, the removal request is placed in a restricted retry queue. The encrypted credential is deleted after the request succeeds.

Deleting your Threshold account

Deleting your account starts removal of your Plaid connections and Threshold account data. Threshold also attempts to remove related records from connected services, including Apple and RevenueCat where applicable.

If Plaid is temporarily unavailable, a restricted retry record may remain until revocation succeeds. It does not contain transaction history or balances. Database backups expire through the provider's normal retention cycle, and support emails remain separate from your Threshold account.
