Built-in Calculations

Last updated: August 13, 2026

All calculations, goals, and metrics in Threshold are for educational purposes only and should not be taken as investment or financial advice.

Threshold includes Net Worth, Monthly Margin, and Savings Rate. Each calculation updates when your balances and transactions change.

Adding a built-in calculation

In Build mode, tap + Calculation. You'll see the three built-in options at the top. Tap the one you want and it appears in the Calculations section. In Build mode, you can move that whole section higher or lower in the canvas stack.

Net Worth

Formula:Total assets − Total liabilities

Net Worth sums the current balance of all your asset accounts (checking, savings, investments) and subtracts all liability accounts (credit cards, loans). The result reflects your current balances, not a period of time.

Monthly Margin

Formula:Income − Spending

Monthly Margin shows your net cash flow for a given time window. A positive number means you spent less than you earned. A negative number means you spent more than you earned.

Time window options:

  • Selected Month (the default, which follows the month you're viewing)
  • This Month
  • Last Month
  • Last 3 Months
  • Trailing 12 Months
  • Year to Date
  • All Time

Savings Rate

Formula:(Income − Spending) ÷ Income, expressed as a percentage

Savings Rate tells you what fraction of your income you're keeping rather than spending. It uses the same time window options as Monthly Margin.

Monthly Margin shows how much you saved. Savings Rate shows what percentage of your income that amount represents.

Built-in calculations are fully editable

Under the hood, built-in calculations use the same formula engine as custom calculations. You can open any built-in calculation and modify its formula, change the time window, or adjust how it works. They're a starting point, not a locked template.

Trendlines

Threshold takes a snapshot of every calculation's value over time. From the moment you create a calculation and add it to your canvas, it begins tracking a trendline. It shows how your net worth, savings rate, or any custom metric changes over time.
