Syncing, searching, and filtering transactions

Last updated: August 13, 2026

Threshold syncs transactions through Plaid. You can search and filter them in the transactions view.

How syncing works

When you first connect a bank, Threshold pulls up to 24 months of transaction history. The initial sync usually takes a few seconds, and you'll see a “Syncing from bank…” note while it runs. Each transaction includes the amount, date, merchant name, and a category.

After that, Plaid refreshes your transactions one or more times per day, depending on your bank. New transactions appear as Plaid reports them. Very recent purchases (within the last day or two) may not show up yet, especially if they're still pending at your bank.

Pending vs. posted

A transaction is in one of two states:

  • Pending:Your bank has reported the transaction, but it hasn't fully settled. Pending transactions look different from posted transactions. Their amount or merchant name can still change.
  • Posted: The transaction is fully settled and final.

Some pending transactions are voided by your bank and never post. If a pending transaction sits for several days without settling, it was likely cancelled at the bank level.

The 24-month history limit

Threshold can pull up to 24 months of history for checking, savings, and credit accounts. Anything older than that isn't available through the connection. Plaid sets this limit for every connected bank.

Opening the transactions view

There are two ways to get to your transactions:

  • Add the Transactions section to your canvas. In Build mode, tap +Transactions. This adds the Transactions card to your canvas; tap it any time to open the full list across all your connected accounts.
  • Open an account's detail sheet.Tap any account card on your canvas to open its sheet, which includes that account's transactions.

Both routes show the same underlying data with the same search and filter tools.

Searching

Type in the search field at the top of the transactions view to find a transaction by merchant or transaction name. Search matches partial text, so typing star will surface your Starbuckstransactions. If nothing matches, you'll see “No transactions found.”

Filtering

Tap the filter button next to the search field to open the filter panel. You can narrow the list two ways:

  • Type: Choose All, Income, Spending, or Transfer to show only that kind of activity.
  • Account: Choose All or a single connected account to focus the list on just that account.

Separately, use the month selector to move through time. You can scroll back through previous months to review historical activity, up to the 24-month limit of your Plaid connection.

Categorizing your spending

The transactions view is a searchable, filterable ledger. Spending breakdowns, category totals, and budget targets live in a separate section. To group spending by category, set targets, or recategorize a transaction, see Categories & budgets.
